Greasemonkey Version 0.8

At long last, the new version of Greasemonkey is available. Get Greasemonkey 0.8.0 from addons.mozilla.org.

The most important change for this release is full compatibility with Firefox 3.0. There is also a new feature that allows modularization of user scripts that comes in four pieces: @resource, @require, GM_getResourceURL, and GM_getResourceText. Follow those links to learn how they work. Also:
  • GM_xmlhttpRequest now includes the finalUrl property.
  • Internal code quality improvements
  • New attractive graphics by Pak-Kei Mak
Finally, there is a set of reported issues that are yet to be resolved. Version 0.8.1 is planned, but we feel 0.8.0 is a strong enough improvement to be worth releasing, for Firefox 3.0 compatibility. Enjoy!

    Minor note to script developers: console.* integration with Firebug is not operational yet with the Firebug 1.2 betas also targeting Firefox 3.

    Well done everyone who contributed to another fine release.

    With the major JavaScript libraries reaching maturity and CDNs hosting said libraries the latest GM features (e.g @require) are going to be a real boon to script writing.

    First off: Love the "new monkey".

    Secondly, most--if not all--of my scripts are still unable to work with Fx 3.0 RC 3. Is it likely the scripts need Fx 3.0 updates as well?

    Little guy will have to stay disabled for (hopefully) just a while longer...

    Just tried the latest Greasemonkey on Firefox 3.0 under Ubuntu Linux. After the install the browser initially restarts okay and I see the monkey in the corner, but as soon as it gets to addons.mozilla.org... it locks up tight as a drum and stays that way.

    If I kill the process and restart, same thing.

    If I kill the process, nuke greasemonkey's extension folder and restart, I'm fine (addons.mozilla.org is still visited but does not lock up my browser, but of course I have no greasemonkey).

    Users are asking me to check out an incompatibility between Firefox 3/Greasemonkey 0.8 and my ljwho script, but apparently I'll have to wait a bit to try to debug that. (:

    I love the new icon! I used to replace the old one with a Tango styled icon that I edited a bit, this looks almost like it, but with more character. No more replacing icons to get the look I desire, but the gigantic space is still there, which I still have to edit myself to get rid of, care to fix that?

    I had to uninstall this, because as soon as I did the update, firefox kept losing my cookies every time I restarted the browser (yes, my settings are correct). I tried a process of elimination to find out which add-on was the culprit, and alas, it was greasemonkey.

    Hm, half my scripts do not work now with the update of FF3. They still worked with the update of greasemonkey, but as soon as I upgraded to FF3, half of them stopped working. Greasemonkey says they are there, but no show, no go. As someone asked before, do the scripts need to be updated, or is the problem with FF3? (I think the problem is probably not with Greasemonkey, as it did work after updating, just not after updating to FF3.)

    I wish there was some concise answer to this question to be found someplace...

    I was asking if it was "likely the scripts need Fx 3.0 updates" and I seem to have found an answer. No, but the reinstallion may help anyway.

    Now that the final Fx 3.0 & GM 0.8 are out, I recommend uninstalling GM scripts (& associated prefs & perhaps even GM itself), restarting Fx and reinstalling the latest GM & scripts.

    I only tried reinstallation again (tried a few times on Fx 3.0 RCs & GM RCs) because the author of one of my faves said there were no problems. The script was last updated in '06 and there's no problems now, same for others.

    l, I tried uninstalling, deleting preffs, uninstalling greasemonkey, reinstalling greasemonkey, reinstalling the scripts. Same problem, no change at all... so either I failed to find all of the gm preffs in the application data folders, or somethign else, or it just does not work at this time. Darn it!

    Just in case I did not find all of the preffs, exactly where should I look for them?

    I think the use script should be encoding in an encoding specified by the user, so that user can choose the encoding he/she needs while writing the script.

    as the current mechanism don't permit this

    Greasemonkey has been broken for me since FF3.0 RC. I thought I could hang on until it updated, but now it is still not running any scripts. They are enabled and installed properly, they just don't run. :(

    All my scripts stopped working with GM .8 and FF 2. Tried everything.

    Found a workaround by compiling the scripts at
    http://arantius.com/misc/greasemonkey/script-compiler

    GM .8 works fine on my FF 3 machine.

    I am using a newly-downloaded Firefox 3.0 on my MacBook, running OS 10.4.11 (after a weird glitch wherein the older version of the browser froze, and when I did a force quit, the application was GONE from my Mac entirely), and the new version of Greasemonkey (Version 0.8.20080609.0, released June 12, 2008) won't download or install.

    Every time I try, I get an error message, and the error console tells me this.

    I'm not a programmer so I don't know what to do beyond this point.

    So...this just isn't going to work for me at all?

    Anyone who's getting that same error message I did should try the same.

    This grease monkey is or seems cool. Once I got used to using it I almost found it invaluable.     I installed Grease Monkey but it doesn't work on Flickr with Firefox. Sadly, it used to until I upgraded it a year back and since haven't been able to get it to work. Any tips would be great. Thanks.
